about

Lest you think that Dialect Trio is only about the Afro and the Latin, the band delivers their send-off with this magnum opus. Three very different songs, one track, swinging from Baku in Azerbaijan to Aqtau in Kazakhstan then to the Balkans, presented here in cinematic thematic brilliance. One boards the ferry in Azerbaijan, to frenetic percussion and hot Middle Eastern-ish guitar. As we cross the Caspian Sea the mood turns darker, more contemplative. After leaving Aqtau, we are heading west towards the Balkans, greeted first by the loneliness of a spaghetti western soundtrack, and then welcomed into raucous abandon via traditional Moldavian folk dance, delivered here with DT’s characteristic tongue-in-cheek Psychedelic style. Featuring Robby Astrove’s dizzying drumming and Matt Mansfield’s brilliant production, this track more than any other displays Dialect Trio’s willingness to blend and blur the lines between genres and cultures and expose commonalities within all music.

about

Dialect Trio Atlanta, Georgia

Dialect Trio play funky, energetic music that knows no bounds. International influences prevail without their mixture sounding like “world” music. Deceiving name aside, they have a formidably large sound, using live looping, percussion programming, and a roster of constantly changing guest horns and percussionist to bolster their interactive, synergetic playing as a trio of Drums, Bass and Guitar. ... more
